The Evolution of a Canadian Rap Icon

Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada, has emerged as one of the most influential figures in contemporary music. From his humble beginnings as an actor on the teen drama series "Degrassi: The Next Generation" to his meteoric rise as a chart-topping rapper, Drake's journey is a testament to perseverance, talent, and innovation.

Early Life: Raised by his mother, Sandi Graham, in Toronto's diverse neighborhood of Forest Hill, Drake's childhood was marked by a passion for music and a drive for success. Despite facing financial struggles, Drake's mother instilled in him a strong work ethic and a love for the arts. Inspired by his father, Dennis Graham, a drummer for Jerry Lee Lewis, Drake was introduced to the world of music at an early age.

Transition to Acting: Drake's first taste of fame came in the early 2000s when he landed a role on the popular Canadian television series "Degrassi: The Next Generation." Portraying the character Jimmy Brooks, a high school basketball star who becomes paralyzed after a tragic shooting, Drake's acting garnered praise for its authenticity and emotional depth. However, it was during this time that Drake began to explore his passion for music, recording songs in his spare time and laying the groundwork for his future career as a rapper.

Rise to Rap Stardom:

In 2009, Drake made a bold transition from acting to music with the release of his critically acclaimed mixtape, "So Far Gone." The project showcased Drake's unique blend of introspective lyrics, melodic hooks, and infectious beats, earning him widespread recognition within the hip-hop community. His breakout single, "Best I Ever Had," topped the charts and solidified Drake as a rising star in the rap world.

Album Success and Cultural Impact: Drake's debut studio album, "Thank Me Later" (2010), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, cementing his status as a bona fide rap sensation. Subsequent albums, including "Take Care" (2011), "Nothing Was the Same" (2013), and "Views" (2016), continued to dominate the charts and showcase Drake's versatility as an artist. Known for his introspective lyrics, emotive delivery, and genre-blurring sound, Drake has redefined the boundaries of hip-hop and inspired a new generation of artists.

Business Ventures and Philanthropy: Beyond music, Drake has ventured into various business endeavors, including his own record label, OVO Sound, and clothing line, OVO Clothing. He has also been actively involved in philanthropy, supporting initiatives related to education, youth empowerment, and social justice. In 2010, Drake established the "Drake Foundation," which provides financial assistance to disadvantaged youth pursuing higher education.

Legacy: Today, Drake's influence extends far beyond the realm of music, as he continues to shape the cultural landscape through his artistry, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy. With numerous awards, record-breaking albums, and sold-out tours under his belt, Drake remains a dominant force in the music industry and a symbol of Canadian excellence on the global stage.

Conclusion: From his humble beginnings as an aspiring actor in Toronto to his status as a chart-topping rapper and cultural icon, Drake's journey embodies the transformative power of talent, determination, and resilience. SCARCITY LOOMS: NNPCL NOT SUPPLYING US SAYS OIL MARKETERS

Marketers have blamed the fresh scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol on a supply challenge from the major oil supplier in the country, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, made this known on Monday on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief breakfast programme

The fresh fuel scarcity has grounded many economic activities in states across the Federation as Nigerians queue up at filling stations nationwide.

While some motorists were lucky to get fuel at some retail outlets for between N700 and N,1200 per litre after hours of sweat and contest, others weren’t so lucky as many retail outlets were shut, with their excuse being supply challenge.

The shortage of the premium product saw the black marketers selling the petrol for as high as N2,000 per litre in states.

Snake-like queues at filling stations in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kano and other places have worsened the traffic situation in the states as the long queues spilt on major roads, hindering movement just as thousands of people were stranded at bus stops with transport fares as high as double the former amounts.

Though many outlets owned by independent oil marketers remained shut, checks by our correspondent in Lagos showed that NNPC retail outlets sell petrol at N568 per litre but not many motorists could survive the unending queues and jostling for sometimes six hours.

Last May, President Bola Tinubu removed the subsidy on petrol with the pump price of the product jumping from about N184 to about N600 per litre. The move aimed at the deregulation of the oil sector has inflicted untold hardship on Nigerians with the prices of basic commodities going through the roof.

On Sunday, the President defended his action again when he told world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that his administration’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy was necessary to prevent the country from going bankrupt.

KANYE WEST ADULT CONTENT MOVES GOT SOME FANS ANGRY

American rapper Kanye West has deleted his social media accounts amid backlash to his plans to launch a Yeezy Porn studio.

The rapper who was born in Atlanta Georgia previously hinted that he had an addiction to pornography which 'destroyed his family'.

The Grammy award-winning artist whose career has dipped amid a torrent of anti-Semitic remarks he's made since the fall of 2022, received dozens of responses from fans who were disappointed for his foray into adult entertainment

A number of fans brought up West's past spiritually-driven projects - including his 2019 album Jesus Is King and his Sunday Services - in comparison to the porn project.

A number of users threw West's past comments on porn back in his face, sharing anti-porn sentiments he expressed on his Twitter in December of 2022, according to Newsweek.

One read, 'The use of Porn destroyed my family but Jesus will heal everything.'

Another said, 'Remove any and all forms of pornography from Twitter and every platform. Pornography is the product of [pedophilia]. When grown men look at porn they are watching someone's daughter relive trauma for money.''

THE USHER PHEELZ COLLABORATION

The steady rise of song collaborations between the industry heavy weights across borders is gradually becoming a norm. The recently released project by American legend Usher which featured the eccentric producer and artist Pheelz is giving more African artists positive vibes and high aspirations of global recognition.

On his new track “Ruin,” Usher jumps on the Afrobeats wave, which makes total sense. He recorded “Ruin” with Pheelz, a Nigerian producer known for working with artists like Davido, Olamide and Others. Usher doesn’t tweak his style too hard to suit the sound. Instead, he sings in a a virtuosic wounded-romantic falsetto, never trying to put on a fake accent or anything. Pretty good song!

Do you agree?
